Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis are poised to make history in a blockbuster Super-Lightweight showdown at the first-ever boxing event at Co-op Live in Manchester on Saturday, August 24. The bout, which will be broadcast live worldwide on DAZN, promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Chorley’s Jack Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs) recently secured a career-defining victory over bitter rival Josh Taylor in Leeds, outpointing the Scotsman in a 12-round battle in front of over 11,000 fans. Riding high on this momentum, the 30-year-old, trained by Jamie Moore, is eager to edge closer to another world title shot.
New Orleans’ Regis Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs) seeks to bounce back after losing his WBC Super-Lightweight World Title to Devin Haney last December in San Francisco. The 35-year-old former two-time world champion is confident that a victory over Catterall will propel him towards a third world championship.
Reflecting on his upcoming fight, Catterall said, “I’ve waited around for big fights to happen before, sitting around waiting for title shots and it caused me a huge amount of inactivity. I’ll never do that again. As soon as Eddie Hearn and Sam Jones mentioned Regis Prograis, I said yes straight away. Regis Prograis is a fantastic fighter, and I’m looking forward to sharing the ring with such a great fighter.”
Prograis echoed the anticipation, saying, “This is a fight I’ve always wanted. We were supposed to fight a few years ago but it never materialized. Now is the perfect time. Jack is eager to become a world champion and I’m looking to become a three-time world champion. I’m excited to be coming back to the UK.”
Matchroom Sport Chairman Eddie Hearn emphasized the significance of the bout, stating, “This is a brilliant fight and I’m so happy that we are seeing the best 140 lbs fighters face each other rather than just sitting around waiting for title shots. Jack Catterall is on a great run and Regis Prograis needs to make a statement in this fight. It will be a thriller.”
Tim Leiweke, CEO of Oak View Group, expressed his excitement for the event, saying, “Co-op Live was not only built for concerts but to host the biggest boxing events in the UK. We are honored to welcome home Jack Catterall to Manchester and to host Jack and Regis for our first boxing event. The building will be electric, whether you are there in person or watching from around the world on DAZN.”
Catterall’s manager, Sam Jones, added, “We wanted to keep Jack as busy as possible. Eddie wanted to do a big show at Co-op Live – the first-ever boxing event at Manchester’s newest venue. It’s amazing for Jack Catterall to be the first boxer to headline there. We’ve gone with the best opponent available, and that’s Regis Prograis. It’s going to be an absolute barn-stormer of a fight.
