Osleys Iglesias vs. Evgeny Shvedenko: Anticipated Super Middleweight Showdown

Rising super middleweight contender Osleys Iglesias is set to face off against Evgeny Shvedenko at the Montreal Casino in Montreal this Thursday.

Iglesias’ Perspective

Ranked No. 8 by The Ring in the super middleweight division, Iglesias is preparing for a challenging bout and shows respect for his experienced opponent.

“There will be a great fight where both of us will strive to be the victor,” Iglesias told The Ring. “Shvedenko has a lot of experience and hails from a country renowned for producing durable and precise boxers.”

The tall, southpaw from Cuba made a strong impression in Europe, winning his first nine fights before signing with Canadian promoter Eye of The Tiger. His debut with the new team was marked by a stunning first-round knockout against the usually resilient Marcelo Coceres in March.

“I was pleased with that performance,” Iglesias remarked. “I was the fastest to stop him in his professional career. He’s had some good fights and almost knocked out Edgar Berlanga.”

The 26-year-old has been training in Chemnitz, Germany, under the guidance of the experienced Georg Bramowski, who has previously coached notable boxers such as Yoan Pablo Hernandez, Arthur Abraham, and Jack Culcay. Iglesias and his team arrived in Montreal a week before the fight, ready to make a significant impact.

“I’m hopeful for a positive outcome with God’s faith guiding me to victory,” he stated. “I envision myself as a future champion, but I must first seize the opportunity at hand, and I am focused on that.”

Promoter’s Confidence

Camille Estephan, head of Eye of The Tiger, was highly impressed with Iglesias’ debut performance and sees great potential in him.

“He exceeded expectations, especially given the quality of his opponent,” Estephan said. “He made a significant statement. Now he’s facing a very skilled opponent. We believe he’s an underrated fighter with immense skill, ability, and potential. We’re extremely excited. We want him to face the biggest names. He’s ready, and we just need to take it step by step.”

Shvedenko’s Record

Evgeny Shvedenko (16-1-1, 7 KOs) began his professional career in Russia in 2015, securing victories over notable opponents like former world title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi and Artur Osipov. However, he lost to William Scull in an IBF title eliminator. The 33-year-old has since bounced back with a win and is coming off a draw against Pavel Silyagin.

Fight Expectations

This bout promises to be intriguing, with Shvedenko known for his toughness and never having been stopped. While Iglesias is not expected to have an easy fight, his skills should allow him to build a lead. The key question is whether Iglesias can secure a stoppage, which would be a significant achievement. Given his talent, it’s likely Iglesias could achieve a stoppage around the tenth round.

This anticipated match will not only test Iglesias’ abilities but also potentially position him for higher-profile fights in the future. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting clash in the super middleweight division.
