Callum Walsh Shines with Second-Round Knockout of Carlos Ortiz

Callum Walsh demonstrated his prowess by decisively defeating Carlos Ortiz with a second-round knockout, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, California. Walsh, who improved his record to 11-0 with 9 KOs, dropped the hard-hitting Ortiz three times before the bout was stopped.

Dominance from the Start

The taller and quicker Walsh, a southpaw, dominated Ortiz from the outset. Near the end of the first round, Walsh landed a right hook to the top of Ortiz’s head, sending him to the canvas. Ortiz managed to get up and survive the round, but the tone was set.

Midway through the second round, Walsh again staggered Ortiz with a right hook to the head. He followed it up with a powerful left hand, which knocked Ortiz down again. Despite beating the count, Ortiz was floored a third time by another vicious left hand, prompting referee Jack Reiss to stop the fight at 1:50.

“I knew he was going to be strong, but I’m stronger,” Walsh said post-fight. “I don’t dance and run around. I come to fight. When my punches land, no man can take them. I’m ready for anyone. I’ve improved a lot. I want my next fight in Ireland.”

Walsh, originally from Cork, Ireland, and now training in Hollywood, California, is coached by renowned trainer Freddie Roach. His victory over Ortiz follows a ninth-round stoppage of Dauren Yeleussinov in March.

Co-Main Event: Daniel Barrera vs. Christian Robles

In the co-feature, flyweight prospect Daniel Barrera won a unanimous decision over Christian Robles. The judges scored the fight 77-75, 77-75, and 79-73 in Barrera’s favor, improving his record to 7-0-1 with 4 KOs.

Robles nearly scored a knockdown in the second round with a right cross that caught Barrera off-balance, but Barrera maintained his composure and stuck to his game plan. Throughout the fight, Barrera worked behind a consistent jab and landed two- and three-punch combinations. He was particularly effective in the final two rounds, securing his victory.

Robles, originally from Zapopan, Mexico, and now residing in Lakewood, California, falls to 8-3 with 3 KOs.
